Update: purchased an XL and it worked much better on our 9 yo. It was a bit on the bigger side (mostly longer), but that works great so she can use them for a few years.
That said, their appearance and quality are okay at best. If you're looking to make your best impression, you won't do it wearing this shirt. Still, they're good for their price. Instead of using them for travel, I'll use these shirts for work.
